Artificial Swarm Intelligence Does Accurate Predictions
FUTURE PROOF – BLOG BY FUTURES PLATFORM
UNU is a platform utilising a combination of AI algorithms and collective human intelligence. So far, it’s been able to do surprisingly accurate forecasts all the way from Oscar winners to presidential elections. Will an efficient combination of algorithms and human swarms be the solution to finding answers to our tricky future problems?
Unanimous A.I., the company behind the UNU platform, aims to harness the power of collective intelligence with the help of real-time AI systems. Their inspiration for building artificial swarm technologies comes from the natural world, where many animal species amplify their intelligence by working as a collective flock, colony or swarm, which is more intelligent than any of their members alone.
It is possible, at least theoretically speaking, that collective intelligence can also lift humans to a new evolutionary level. As Lauri Järvilehto, Ph.D., in his book has stated: “Based on research, we can say that brains and minds do not send and receive information, but people create knowledge by synchronising and doing things together with others, i.e. by practising what William Isaacs, senior lecturer at MIT, calls ‘the art of thinking together’.”
Artificial swarm intelligence has already started to prove its potential by providing more accurate predictions than many AI algorithms or small groups of experts have been able to form alone. In the future, it’s quite likely that the mix of artificial intelligence and human swarm intelligence will be used for multiple purposes to process any issue imaginable, quickly, and in increasingly smart ways. Development of collective intelligence systems may receive a boost from the computer network hivemind that e.g. Google has been working on for more than ten years.
Louis Rosenberg, the Founder of Unanimous A.I., has pointed out that these smart systems not only serve the potential to amplify human intelligence, but they can also act as bridge builders, mitigating threats associated with artificial intelligence, as they enable utilising algorithms to augment human wisdom, creativity, and intuition. Combining the best of both worlds may result in intelligent and efficient action without giving the power over to the machines.
